Chromatography

Aim: To separate the different pigments in inks or dyes using paper chromatography.

Equipment:

~Ink from ballpoint pens

~Marker pens or food colouring 

~250ml beaker

~Strip of filter paper

~Scissors

~Adhesive tape

~Pencil or ice-block stick

~chromagraphy solution

Method:

Growing Crystals

Aim:To make crystals form in  in a super saturated solution.

Equipment:

• A super saturated solution of Sodium acetate
• Small beakers
• A pencil or ice block stick
• Some cotton string
• A stirring rod
• Bunsen burner 
• Scissor tongs
• Heat mat
• A seed crystal of sodium acetate
• Boiling tube
• Funnel
• Filter paper

                     

Making A Dilution Series

Aim:To make dilution series to investigate concentration.

Equipment:

• A potassium permanganate crystal
• Six large test tubes
• Tweezers
• A plastic transfer pipette
• A test tube rack
• 10 ml measuring cylinder

Method:

1. Place the six tubes in a test tube rack .Label the rack with numbers from 1-6.
2. Using the measuring cylinder,fill test tube 1 with 10 ml of water.Fill the remaining test tubes with 5 ml of water.
3. Using your tweezers,add a single crystal of potassium permanganate to test tube 1.
4. Gently shake the test tube  until the crystal has dissolved.
5. Using the transfer pipette,carefully remove exactly 5 ml from test tube 1 and pour it into test tube 2.
6. Rinse the transfer pipette thoroughly to ensure that no purple solution remains.
7. Gently shake test tube 2 and repeat the transfer process,transferring exactly 5 ml  of solution from the test tube 2 and test tube .
8. Rinse the pipette again and repeat the transfer process for test tubes 4,5 and 6. 

Results

I discovered that the color will get lighter when you move it to another test tube it is diluting.

My Culture

I have learnt that every pacific culture is unique and nice just the way they are.I really am happy about what i have learnt so far and i hope my learning is not going to come to an end thank you.

My Performance

We are going to be performing You're welcome by (Maui) aka Dwayne the Rock Johnson.It is about Maui because his going to sing about  his adventures to Moana  because Moana thanked him.And after they become friends.We are going to lip sync and dance and that's our performance.We will have to practice  lip syncing and dancing.

Separating Mixtures

Aim:To separate a solution from a (precipitate is the name  for a solid that forms in a  liquid during a chemical reaction)

Equipment:

• Sodium carbonate solution.
• Copper sulfate solution.
• a Conical flask.
• Stirring rod.
• a 200 ml beaker.
• a Funnel or Filter paper.

Method:


               1. Pour approximately 50 ml of copper sulfate solution into a beaker.
               2.Add the same volume of sodium carbonate solution.A precipitation reaction will                                      occur,resulting in a cloudy blue precipitate of copper carbonate.
               3.Your teacher will show you how to fold the filter paper so it fits inside your funnel.
               4.Place the funnel,with the filter paper inside it,into the mouth of a conical flask.
                5.Stir,then carefully pour the precipitated mixture into the funnel.
